On August 15, 2019. I attended the 491 Board Meeting. There were two new rule changes for Clinical Supervision of Interns. Audits had found that some Qualified Clinical Supervisors were supervising and many as 125 interns. They also found that some schools were either providing no practicum hours or inadequate amounts. Consequently, they felt the need to clarify the rules and make provisions for this to avoid confusion.
- 64B4-2.002, Definition of “Supervision” for Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy & Mental Health Counseling —Proposed Change to this rule to limit the number of Intern supervisees, “shall supervise no more than 25 interns simultaneously.” As of now this will be self-monitored.
- 64B4-3.0085, Intern Registration — adopts the supervision plan for interns if their practicum hours are not completed in school. They have to complete their practicum hours prior to applying supervision hours. (900 hours). This can be done with their Qualified Clinical Supervisor, but must be done sequentially, (not concurrently), (e.g. Practicum hours completed first, and then internship hours).
