Description: This dynamic course offers mental health professionals a comprehensive view of domestic violence, from foundational definitions to advanced intervention strategies. Attendees will gain insight into how domestic violence affects survivors’ mental health, healthcare access, and overall well-being. Through engaging discussions and real-world case examples, participants will learn to identify signs of domestic violence in diverse client populations, employ effective screening tools, and approach both survivors and perpetrators with empathy and cultural sensitivity. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to create safe, trauma-informed spaces, implement best-practice interventions, and connect clients with critical local and national resources.

  4. Discuss the importance of culturally competent strategies when conducting domestic violence assessments.

About the Presenter:

Jessica Straughn, LMHC, NCC, CCTP, is the founder of Supportive Counseling, LLC and has over a decade of experience advocating for survivors of intimate partner violence. She served as a Victim Specialist at both the University of Central Florida Police Department and the 9th Judicial State Attorney’s Office, gaining extensive knowledge of the legal system and protective measures. Focusing on trauma, anxiety, and depression, Jessica employs trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approaches to empower clients on their healing journey. Her commitment to high-quality care, education, and community support drives her passion for helping individuals reclaim their lives after abuse.
