Description: Learn how to use CBT for Insomnia from an ACT perspective and apply it specifically to individuals with co-occurring Insomnia and Eating Disorders. CBT-i is the first-line, gold standard behavioral treatment for Insomnia. Studies are showing a significant relationship between Insomnia and Eating Disorders. In this workshop we will learn how to diagnose insomnia and how to treat insomnia adjunctly to an eating disorder, using both ACT and CBT interventions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to recognize and describe the two biological processes that regulate sleep (Circadian Rhythm and Homeostatic Drive), and how these concurrently interact with eating disorder symptoms.
  2. Participants will be able to explain the underlying mechanisms shared between eating disorders and insomnia.
  3. Participants will be able to identify the five components of manualized CBT-i.
  4. Participants will be able to discuss the benefits of using ACT adjunctly to improve treatment outcomes in the eating disorder population.
About the Presenter:

Savannah Hipes is a licensed therapist who helps highly driven, sleep-deprived professionals who feel exhausted and on edge to finally sleep through the night. She is trained in the treatment of Insomnia and Nightmares, as well as other conditions commonly co-occurring with sleep disorders such as Anxiety and Eating Disorders. Savannah works with clients in-person in Central Florida, and virtually throughout FL and NY. She values using evidence-based practices and thorough interdisciplinary collaboration and consultation to provide a premium therapy experience.
