Description: The number of cyber-attacks has consistently risen over the past few decades. Behavioral Health Professionals are susceptible to cybercrime and are targeted as one of the high-risk industries affected. In 2020, reported cyber attacks increased significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  According to the Cybersecurity Ventures report, the global cost of cybercrime was predicted to grow from $3 trillion in 2015 to $10.5 Trillion Annually By 2025.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Given a scenario on cybersecurity threats, participants will be able to identify password protection and two-factor authentication as critical methods to secure user accounts and data to prevent unauthorized access, with 80% accuracy.
  2. Given examples of phishing emails, participants will be able to accurately identify the emails as phishing attempts with at least 90% accuracy. Additionally, after reading the agency's policy on reporting phishing attacks, participants will be able to describe the proper procedure for reporting a suspected phishing email to the appropriate agency contacts with 100% accuracy.
  3. After reviewing scenarios depicting HIPAA privacy or security violations, participants will be able to identify at least 3 potential penalties for non-compliance, such as fines, reputational damage, and increased oversight, as well as 3 possible ramifications, such as harm to patients, legal liability, and loss of public trust, with 100% accuracy.
  4. After reviewing information on the 4 levels of non-compliance under HIPAA regulations, participants will be able to accurately identify and describe each level of violation and the associated penalties, including potential loss of license and criminal penalties for willful neglect at the highest level, with no major errors. Participants will also be able to recognize that the more severe levels of violation can result not just in fines but also reputational damage, harm to patients, and loss of licensure or criminal prosecution in extreme cases of willful neglect.
About the Presenter:
