Learning Objectives:

Comprehensive Understanding of Narrative Exam Structure - Conduct a thorough investigation into the design principles and methodologies employed in constructing the narrative exam. - Analyze the underlying framework and components that form the foundation of the exam's structure, such as the types of questions, the order in which they are presented, and the overall flow of the assessment. - Examine the rationale behind the chosen structure and its effectiveness in evaluating the desired skills and knowledge.

2. In-depth Analysis of Exam Content Coverage - Perform a meticulous review of the areas and topics covered within the narrative exam. - Categorize and classify the subject matter into distinct domains or themes to gain a clearer understanding of the exam's scope. - Assess the breadth and depth of the content covered, identifying the core concepts, theories, and applications that are emphasized throughout the exam. - Evaluate the relevance and significance of the selected areas in relation to the intended learning outcomes and objectives of the exam.

3. Development and Implementation of a Structured Approach for Narrative Dissection - Formulate a systematic and organized methodology for analyzing and interpreting the narratives presented in the exam. - Break down the narratives into their constituent elements, such as plot, character development, theme, symbolism, and literary devices. - Establish a set of guiding principles or criteria for evaluating the effectiveness and impact of each narrative component. - Apply critical thinking skills and analytical techniques to examine the interconnectedness of the various elements and their contribution to the overall meaning and purpose of the narratives. - Develop a standardized approach for dissecting the narratives that can be consistently applied across different exam questions and scenarios, ensuring a comprehensive and rigorous analysis.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Linton Hutchinson, has spent the last 25 years on working with students who are on the road to becoming therapists. He has a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and an MA in Mental Health Counseling and has taught every course from Principles of Counseling to Research and Assessment. Linton has also worked with medical students at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies and taught counseling courses at the University of the South Pacific in the Fiji Islands. Back in the States, he continued his teaching at Nova Southeastern University, University of Central Florida, Troy State, and Rollins College. He was the first Regional Coordinator for Webster University where he designed and developed their Mental Health Counseling Program in Florida.

Stacy Frost is currently the Content Curator at Licensure Exams, where she is responsible for designing educational presentations on all subjects related to the helping professions and specifically the NCMHCE Counseling Exam. Stacy comes from the medical field and is an expert on the DSM-5. She is also a Certified Coach and works with students suffering from test anxiety. Stacy helps students manage and overcome test anxiety by offering online coaching. Additionally, Stacy teaches essential skills to combat test anxiety using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy skills offering holistic, motivational, and inspiration to help improve self-esteem and confidence.
