DescriptionA key aspects of play therapy is the ability to link play with the therapeutic needs of the client. Therapeutic responses help clinicians communicate unconditional positive regard, and empathetic understanding. The various types of responses have the ability to help build the relationship, facilitate self-concept, develop self-responsibility and create awareness.      This workshop will assist clinicians learn the importance of play and how to use the various types of therapeutic responses to encourage growth and promote the efficacy of play therapy.  

Participants will be awarded 3 APT Contact CE. APT Approved Provider # 22-661. Play therapy credit may not be awarded to non-mental health professionals.

About the Presenters:

Denise Folsom has been involved in her community for most of her life whether it be as a community member, adoptee, military spouse, or parent. Early experiences have provided a background for understanding others and Denise uses that as a basis for helping people identify where they are and developing their own path. She believes that with knowledge people are able to understand behaviors and then make desired changes.  Denise uses a variety of interventions to work with clients including EMDR, Play Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, etc. She is also trained in CPP,  Synergetic Play Therapy, Traumaplay, Theraplay, DBT and Smart Recovery.    â€‹    She enjoys helping people of all ages, uses talk and non-verbal therapies including play therapy, games and sand therapy. Denise has a passion to work with other professionals, military, parents and their infants/children, and those with experiences of grief, perinatal/ infant/child loss, and trauma. Denise is the owner of The Legacy House in Panama City Florida. Denise has extensive experience in education as a former elementary school teacher, preschool teacher/director and writer of curriculum. She is currently a Registered Play Therapy Supervisor, EMDR Consultant and Clinical Supervisor. She is the wife of a retired military member and the mother of three.
