Description: The Polyvagal Theory equips us with essential knowledge and tools to support our clients' sense of safety when they experience overwhelming levels of emotional disturbance. This hands-on workshop is engaging (and fun!). Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe the Polyvagal Theory.
  2. Participants will be able to explain regulation, somatic awareness in regards to the autonomic nervous system, and the client’s capacity to attain emotional equilibrium through the lens of the Polyvagal Theory.
  3. Participants will differentiate between perception, neuroception, and interoception through lecture and experiential hands-on activities.

About the Presenters:

Jackie Flynn EdS, LMHC-S, RPT, Host of Play Therapy Community ™ is the founder and director of Counseling in Brevard and EMDR and Play Therapy Integration Support is a Licensed Psychotherapist, Registered Play Therapist, Trauma Therapist, Couples Counselor, Education Consultant, and Business Coach. Her passion for helping children and families in a variety of settings inspired her to open a private practice group in Cocoa Village, Florida where she provides caring, thoughtful counseling and therapy to individuals of all ages, families, couples, and groups. As a proud veteran of the US Army, a Give an Hour Provider, and a Certified EMDR Therapist and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, she is passionate about helping people heal from traumatic experiences and move towards a happier, healthier life. She has special interests in Anxiety, Depression, Adoption, Grief, Relationship Struggles, Learning Disabilities, and Attention Deficit Disorder. Jackie earned an Education Specialist degree in School Counseling from University of Central Florida and Graduate Certificates in Play Therapy and Nonprofit Management. Prior to her current work at Counseling in Brevard, she was honored to be the School Counselor at Sculptor Charter School in Titusville, Florida where she currently serves on the Board of Directors as the Parent Representative. Jackie is also the creator and host of Play Therapy Community and Parenting in the Rain Podcasts, downloaded over 350,000 times in over 50 countries.


Sandra B. Stanford, MA works as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Charis Counseling. Center’s satellite office in Titusville, FL. Sandra earned her Master’s Degree in Psychological Counseling from Palm Beach Atlantic University. Sandra’s therapeutic style is collaborative in naturewhere her goal is to help clients recognize, define, and achieve growth and healing in their hearts and homes. Sandra and her husband, David, have been married over 30 years and have two adult children, Jonathan and Anna Beth, a son in love, Christopher, grandson Ashton and 2 Airedale grand-dogs Sherlock and Weta. Sandra is certified in EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is a powerful psychotherapy approach that has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological distress. She is an approved CEU provider for EMDR Therapy.  Additionally, Sandra enjoys working with couples and is certified in the Prepare & Enrich program, she is trained in Emotional Intimacy which teaches couples how to connect on a deeper level and has a specialty focus on those couples who desire healing from an affair. Sandra is the founder of Our Marriage Matters and offers faith-based weekend intensive retreats and groups for couples. She is also a Certified Daring Way ™ Facilitator utilizing the work of Brene’ Brown offering one day workshops and processing groups. Sandra is an active member of the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors.
