Description: This webinar introduces mental health professionals to the Neuro-Logical Level Alignment (NLLA) model, a structured framework designed to facilitate sustainable client change by aligning cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions with personal or organizational goals. Developed from neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and drawing on the learning theories of Gregory Bateson, NLLA offers a multi-level approach to understanding client challenges, identifying the root cause, and applying targeted interventions at the most appropriate level. Participants will explore each level of the NLLA model, from environment and behavior to identity and purpose, learning to analyze client issues with a deeper understanding of neurocounseling principles. With a strong emphasis on practical application, this session includes techniques like visualization exercises, values clarification, and behavioral rehearsals that enhance mental health interventions. While the NLLA model aligns with emerging neuroscience-informed methodologies, such as brain-based interventions and mindfulness techniques, its limitations—particularly its empirical basis in NLP—will be discussed to ensure ethical and evidence-based application in clinical practice. By the end of the presentation, attendees will gain a nuanced understanding of how to align their clients’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioral experiences with therapeutic goals. Through case studies, interactive exercises, and group discussions, participants will be equipped to integrate NLLA into their practice, enhancing their therapeutic efficacy with a holistic, structured approach.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the six levels of the Neuro-Logical Level Alignment (NLLA) model and how each level applies to mental health counseling.
  2. Explain how the NLLA framework aligns with neurocounseling principles, particularly through the integration of mindfulness, brain-based interventions, and psychoeducation.
  3. Differentiate between issues that arise at different levels (e.g., beliefs vs. behaviors) and determine the appropriate interventions.
  4. Demonstrate the use of techniques such as visualization, values clarification, and behavioral rehearsals in the application of the NLLA model.
  5.  Evaluate the limitations of the NLLA model, including its empirical basis in NLP, and discuss how to apply the model ethically and effectively within a mental health counseling framework.
