Exploring the Link Between Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Connection in Mental Health and Wellbeing

Description: The presentation dives into the powerful connection between emotional intelligence and mental health. Attendees will be able to define emotional intelligence and emotional connection and the relevance these two components play in mental health well-being. Attendees will be able to identify the key components of emotional intelligence. This section of the course will also discuss different characteristics of emotional connection. At the end of the section, attendees will be able to explain why emotional intelligence and emotional connection are an important role in mental health wellbeing. Attendees will then examine the role of emotional intelligence in mental health. This section examines both the negative impacts of low levels of emotional intelligence, as well as the benefits of achieving high levels of emotional intelligence. Furthermore, it will discuss how emotional intelligence is the foundation for mental health. The content in this section will also discuss the impact emotional intelligence has on social and relational well-being. Attendees will be able to explain how emotional intelligence promotes resilience to mental health challenges and how emotional intelligence supports long-term mental health well-being and protective factors against mental health disorders. Next, attendees will analyze the relationship between emotional connection and well-being. Attendees will be able to explain how emotional connection contributes to emotional well-being. The content will demonstrate how emotional connection is fundamental to emotional health by fostering resilience, reinforcing self-worth, and enhancing overall life satisfaction. Last, attendees will be able to recommend practical strategies to enhance emotional intelligence. Attendees will be able to explain ways to build self-awareness, strengthen self regulation, enhance empathy, improve social skills, and cultivate motivation and resilience. These strategies offer practical tools to help individuals, build resilience, foster healthy relationships, and improve overall mental health well-being. Each section of the course is expected to take 30 minutes to complete. Time will be allocated at the end of the course for participants to ask questions. Attendees will be able to print out worksheets to take notes for each section of the course.

About the Presenter:

Erica Whitfield is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist, author of the book, Effortless Until Now: What to Do When High-Performing Kids Begin Struggling in School and founder of Positive Development, a therapy practice for gifted and high performing kids. Erica helps kids manage stress and anxiety, improve their organization and executive functioning skills, process difficult life adjustments, form healthier relationships, and perform better in school.
