The Hero's Journey: Using Psychodrama as a Strength-Based Tool for Post-Traumatic Growth

Description: Join us in learning how to access the warrior from within as we embark on the hero's journey! Psychodrama is an evidenced-based experiential therapy modality and a powerful approach for healing trauma and mental health concerns. This training offers participants the opportunity to explore the history and theory of psychodrama while learning practical tools to use in both individual and group psychotherapy sessions. Through the hero’s journey, participants will learn strategies for building safety, resiliency, and uncovering inner strengths. Action methods will be facilitated to give participants the opportunity to gain new insight through personal discovery and leave with creative and exciting new ways to engage clients in clinical work. Whether you’re attending your very first psychodrama workshop or you’re an old pro, all levels of experience are welcome!

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will be able to describe the basic theoretical constructs of psychodrama intervention and theory.
2. Attendees will be able to integrate and implement psychodramatic techniques/interventions such as warm-ups, role reversal, and doubling into sessions with clients both individually and in groups.
3. Using the theme of the hero’s journey, attendees will learn creative tools for helping clients gain insight on strengths, identify how to move through barriers keeping them stuck, and facilitate post-traumatic growth.

About the Presenter:

Kerry is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and serves on the FMHCA Board of Directors for the Southwest Region. She is a Certified Practitioner of Psychodrama, Sociometry, and Group Psychotherapy and is completing the Practitioner Applicant for Trainer (PAT) process. Kerry co-founded The Creative Wellness Collective with Aimee Johnson, where she offers psychodrama training and workshops for clinicians. She presently has a private practice in Tampa, Florida called True Wellness Tampa where she works with adolescents, young adults, and families who are dealing with anxiety, emotion management, social difficulties, and self-confidence.

Aimee is the owner of Creative Minds Counseling and has been practicing therapy since 2014. She specializes in trauma, addiction, and brain injury and offers individual/group therapy, training, and supervision. Aimee is certified in Psychodrama, is completing the Practitioner Applicant for Trainer (PAT) process, and has been training for 10+ years. She is committed to helping individuals with trauma and addiction learn how to thrive and overcome obstacles in their lives. Aimee has spent 11 years in anti-human trafficking work and advocating for affordable quality healthcare for financially insecure and underserved populations. She serves as a board member and Director of Counseling for the Underground Clinic, as well as the ASGPP (American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama).
