Description: In this 12-hr. continuing education course required to meet the qualifications for Qualified Supervisory Training, the didactic, engaging, and interactional instruction will be delivered in a virtual format, supporting segments of didactic approaches enhanced through model(s), styles of supervision, and trauma informed care.

Updated and current best practice approaches will be explored, including distinctive issues that arise in supervision such as cultural, gender, ethnicity, power, economics, and secondary traumatic stress. The interactive discussion will be framed against the backdrop of current laws and rules within the changing atmosphere of practice.  Telemental Health in practice will be explored and the use of Telemental Health practice post-COVID 19 will be discussed. Best practice examples of Telemental Health will be examined.   

Exploration of the latest Florida laws and Board rules for interns and supervisors will include a discussion of the role of evaluation in supervision in the context of Deliberate Practice, Feedback Informed Treatment, and Trauma Informed Care.

A closing, integrative review of the CE contents will include a fusion of psychotherapy methods, Deliberate Practice, Feedback Informed Treatment, and Trauma Informed Care. At the end of the CE, participants will have developed a personal model of supervision, examined trauma, burnout, and Secondary Traumatic Stress self-care strategies. Finally, participants will consider the use of Deliberate Practice, Feedback Informed Treatment and Trauma Informed Care in their qualified supervision practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the Major Models and Styles of Supervision and Trauma Informed Care for clinical social work, marriage and family therapy or mental health counseling.
  2. Develop a personal model of supervision, drawn from existing models of supervision and preferred therapeutic styles.
  3. Understand the co-evolving dynamics of therapist-client and supervisor-therapist-client relationships.
  4. Explore distinctive issues that arise in supervision.
  5. Address the contextual variables in practice such as culture, gender, ethnicity, power, economics, and Secondary Traumatic Stress.
  6. Describe ethical, legal and regulatory issues of supervision, including documentation of the supervisory sessions.
  7. Review Florida laws and board rules governing Interns and Supervisors.
  8. Understand the role of evaluation in supervision.
  9. Review and Integrate Workshop Content.

About the Presenters:

Dr. Julia W. Buckey, holds a PHD and MSW from The Florida State University, and a BA from Mercer University, Macon, GA. President/CEO of Decision Dynamics Consulting, Inc. (DBA: URChoices©️), she provides organizations and Florida licensees (490 and 491 Boards) with current knowledge, skills, and strategies designed to improve individual and team performance. With 25 years of practice in a wide range of health/behavioral health topics applicable to individuals, families, and groups, her education and administrative experience focused on creating, providing, and managing health/mental health services based on building win-win staff-client partnerships grounded in mutual trust, respect, and understanding. Honored for teaching and research, she is an author, lecturer, and conference presenter, Chair, NASW-FL’s LCSW Healthcare Proxy Guidelines (Rev.) and current Chair of the NASW National Health Section Committee.

Dr. Jacinto holds a PHD from Barry University, Miami; Master’s in Education from the University of Idaho; Master’s in Social Work from The Florida State University, and BS from California State University, Fresno, CA. With 25 years of practice, education, and administrative experience as Program Director, Professor, and Board Member, Dr. Jacinto understands dilemmas facing today’s leaders and employees. His work targets organizational/individual/employee outcomes to develop greater individual understanding in community groups and individuals. In addition to his private clinical practice, Dr. Jacinto is a qualified supervisor, author, lecturer, and conference presenter, covering a wide range of behavioral topics applicable to individuals, families, and groups.
