Description: This session equips supervisors with practical strategies to support early-career counselors through effective, theory-driven supervision—not counseling. We’ll explore key topics including supervision frameworks, developmental stages of supervisees, boundary setting, and navigating challenges such as transference and countertransference. The focus is on fostering a collegial, professional relationship that promotes growth while maintaining clear role distinctions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Differentiate supervision from counseling by applying theoretical frameworks and role boundaries to maintain a professional, collegial relationship with supervisees.
  2. Identify and implement strategies for supporting early-career counselors through developmental stages while fostering growth and competence.
  3. Analyze and address common supervisory dilemmas related to transference, countertransference, and boundary setting to ensure ethical and effective supervision.
  4. Develop strategies to protect the longevity of the supervisory role by recognizing early signs of burnout and implementing self-care and workload management practices.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Bridget Glass is a licensed mental health counselor whose clinical expertise extends to the treatment of intimate partner violence, adult survivors of childhood abuse, and occupational distress in the helping professions. Additionally, Dr. Glass is the Program Director and Assistant Professor for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at South University in West Palm Beach, Florida. Dr. Glass has served as a Board Member for the Florida Mental Health Counselors Association for 2 years. She enjoys traveling with her husband of 24 years, teaching, and playtime with her 2 fluffy pups!
