Florida Laws and Rules: Foundations for Clinical Practice

Description: This live, eight (8) hour course is required for applicants seeking Florida licensure as Clinical Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and/or Mental Health Counselors, preparing licensure applicants to demonstrate knowledge of Florida laws and rules for licensure in key areas and processes described in F. A. C. 64B4-3.0035. Mandated subjects, Therapist-Patient Privilege, Substance Abuse, Child and Adult Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation, FL Mental Health Act, Psychotherapy Services, and rules fo the 491 Board of Florida. Content delivery will utilize didactic instruction, individual/group assessments and case studies, and discussions on each segment, followed by an open Q&A participant forum.

1. 1.Describe functions and processes contained in the mandated FL Statutes, Chapters 456, 90, 394, 397, 415, 39, 491, and in the rules set forth by the 491 Board influencing clinicial practice.
2. Examine, integrate and explain the FL Legislature's intent and purpose for each of the course subject areas.
3. Apply Florida Statutes and F. A. C. Codes relevant to practice issues.
4. Safeguard individual clinical practice and professional liability from errors of omission and/or commission of potential offensives related to a lack of professional clinical awareness.
