Description: Covid 19 rapidly became the dreaded World War III, dramatically altering the way we live and work. This novel virus is not a novel event in trauma context. We will explore the counseling implications of Shared Traumatic Events including hurricanes, floods, wildfires and shootings. Concepts presented: age and culturally appropriate styles of Psychological First Aid, brief trauma focused interventions, creative therapy approach to initial assessment and the impact of Compassion Fatigue.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Kathie Erwin is an Associate Professor at Divine Mercy University School of Counseling, Green Cross Academy Certified Master Traumatologist and Director of Global Trauma Education Center in Tampa Bay area. Dr Erwin is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, National Certified Counselor, National Certified Gerontological Counseling and AMHCA Diplomat in Geriatric Counseling. She was appointed as Fulbright Specialist teaching at the University of Iceland. She has severed several terms as Secretary/Board Member for FMHCA and as Board Member of Green Cross Academy of Traumatology. As a Certified Field Traumatologist, Dr Erwin has been a field trainer for teams in Trinidad, India and Romania. She also teaches trauma counseling for the Ukraine Project in Kiev.

Kelly Erwin, Certified Field Traumatologist is the Coordinator for Global Trauma Education Center in Tampa Bay area. She has served with Green Cross in Cameroon, West Africa and in deployments for mission work in England, Ethiopia, Mexico, Jamaica and Israel. She also leads a team of missionaries who work in several African nations.
